From its humble and slightly sour beginnings in 1856 to the flourishing brewery of the 21st century, the Maes family has kept the flame of Bruges' brewing tradition alive. Under the leadership of Xavier Vanneste, the sixth generation in charge, a distinctive identity has been forged that defines our brewery.

Since its founding in 1856, the brewery has continually evolved. From beer deliveries on horseback and horse-drawn carts to the implementation of an innovative underground beer pipeline that transports beer over 3.3 kilometers, De Halve Maan has proven to be a beacon of innovation.

Today, it remains the last authentic family brewery in the historic heart of Bruges, and its legacy is reflected in its rich history.

We have launched a crowdfunding campaign to implement ecological enhancements, such as solar panels and a water treatment plant, at our new location on the city's outskirts.
